The Livability of Your Home

When you’re purchasing your home for life you never think of what it would be like 20 or 30 years down the road however this is something that should be considered as you never know what life has in store or how long you will be in your home.

Make sure the neighborhood is walkable and is safer for pedestrians being closer to public transit may be important in your later years as well as proximity to grocery stores restaurants and retail stores. Another important consideration is if you are near doctors and dentists as well as the pharmacy. As you age you will need to use these services more than you may need to now.

How about the social aspect of the neighborhood? Is there a strong community association? There should be if you plan to spend many years in your home. You will want plenty of things to do and have many opportunities to meet new people. You may also want to find out if your local community offers classes such as cooking, art, or home maintenance.

Remember that bigger houses take more maintenance than smaller ones. What made it look like the perfect time now in 20 or 30 years might be too much to maintain. If you become unable to take care of the home by yourself will you have the opportunity to hire a gardener or house cleaner? These are all important considerations when buying a home and planning to be there for years down the road.
